چکیده
Physical factors When 16 years old, he was knocked out in a landmine explosion. Both arms were fractured and he had abdominal and chest injuries. At 21 years he suffered from pulmonary tuberculosis. He was treated with a phrenic nerve crush and with surgical pneumothoraces which were corrected in 1949. He has since suffered from chronic bronchitis each winter. Physical examination revealed the expected surgical and traumatic scars. His chest was abnormal being pigeon-breasted with extremely reduced expansion. There were rhonchi bilaterally. Cardiovascular system, abdomen and central nervous systems-normal. Chest X-ray revealed extensive pleural calcification and no phrenic nerve paralysis.

Spatial Learning Paradigm Can Increase Post-Stress Total Time of REM Sleep in Immobilized Rats
Background & Objective: Stress contributes to sleep-wake behavior in all animals. It seems that factors such as learning and memory processes can improve sleep disorders. Therefore, the present study was conducted to determine the effects of stress and learning (spatial memory) on total post-stress rapid-eye-movement (REM), non-rapid-eye-movement (NREM) and waking time in rats. Materials & Met...
متن کاملRAPID EYE MOVEMENT SLEEP DEPRIVATION INDUCES ACETYLCHOLINESTERASE A CTIVITY IN THE PREOPTIC AREA OF THE RAT BRAIN
Acetylcholinesterase (AchE) is a large glycoprotein that, aside from its known cholinolytic activity, co-exists with other transmitter systems and possesses other functions. In the present study, the effects of short-term rapid-eye-movement sleep deprivation (REM-SD) on AchE activity in the anterior hypothalamic area have been investigated. Using the flower-pot method, adult male albino ra...
متن کاملCinnamaldehyde Antagonizes REM Sleep Reduction Induced by Immobilization Stress in Rats
Background and purpose: Sleep and stress are linked in a bidirectional manner. Immobilization stress is a simple model that could be used easily in animal studies for understanding the neurobiology of stress-sleep relationship. Cinnamaldehyde as a herbal medicine with antioxidant activities could be investigated in modulating sleep-stress interaction. Materials and methods: In the present stud...
متن کاملEvaluation of Pain Tolerance Threshold Following Anti TNF-α after Induction REM Sleep Deprivation in a Male Wistar Rat Model (In press)
Background and Aim: Tumor Necrose Factor-alpha (TNF-α) changes by REM sleep deprivation. Some believe that TNF-α is a biomarker in the deprivation of REM sleep. The patients with insomnia could be better after using Anti TNF-α or Infliximab (IFX), on the other hand, IFX effects on Patient Tolerance Threshold (PTT). Trying to manage the hospital inpatients’ pain is one of the common aims special...
متن کاملThe septum modulates REM sleep-related penile erections in rats
Rapid eye movement sleep in males is characterized by penile erection along with EEG desynchronization, muscle atonia, ponto-geniculo-occipital waves, and rapid eye movements (REM). The central neural mechanisms regulating sleep related erections (SREs) are not known. Recently, the lateral preoptic area has been shown to contribute in sleep-related erectile mechanisms. The present study was con...
